2 MILLION BLOSSOMS MAGAZINE

Introducing a new quarterly magazine dedicated to educating the public about pollinators. Learn what dangers they face and how we can help them. Created by honey bee biologist Dr. Kirsten Traynor, 2 Million Blossoms will provide a much needed space for smart, nuanced conversations about pollinator conservation. We are talking long-form articles from an impressive list of contributors: Rusty Burlew, Marla Spivak, Mark Winston, award winning author Craig Childs, Dave Goulson and Kim Flottum.

The 2 Million Blossoms Mission:

“To awaken readers to the vast diversity of pollinating insects and animals. To delight, entertain and name those well-adapted creatures buzzing through our world, because the more we know about pollinators, the better we can provide habitat. Our quarterly magazine will offer short and long form articles exploring how bees, birds, butterflies and bats enhance our planet.”

Will You Help Make This Magazine Possible?

2 Million Blossoms launches this month with a Kickstarter campaign and it won’t be brought into existence without our help. Currently the campaign is only half way to its funding goal— let’s see if we can change that! With so many pollinators in trouble, we need this kind of education more than ever. You can help make this magazine possible by donating to the campaign, becoming a subscriber, or simply by helping to spread the buzz! Please share the Kickstarter campaign with friends, family and all the “beeople” you know.

About The Creator

Another wonderful aspect of this magazine is its creator Dr. Kirsten Traynor. With so many male voices in both the science and beekeeping world, it’s thrilling to see a Dr. Traynor use her expertise to bring this wonderful magazine to life. As former editor of Bee World and The American Bee Journal, Dr. Traynor knows how to make a magazine, but I suspect her background in science and her passion for pollinators will be what makes this publication shine. Like me, she is alarmed by, “the growing divide portrayed between beekeepers and native bee enthusiasts” and believes that it, “distracts from our many shared goals to improve forage and habitat for all”. With Dr. Traynor at its helm, 2 Million Blossoms is sure to deliver the kind of inspiring and scientifically sound information we really need right now.

I’m wondering why Kirsten Traynor decided to create a hard copy, paper magazine given the current ecological crisis, and given how hard it is to keep hard copy publications going…
